A case of 'pure' word blindness.
The concept of 'pure' word blindness is still a matter of controversy. Some authors maintain that it is a selective asymbolia (Holmes, 1950; Symonds, 1953; Brain, 1955) while others (Critchley, 1953) consider it to be an aphasic disorder. Beringer and Stein (1930) attribute its mechanism to some pathological functional lability of the visual system. Martin (1954) assumes that it is due to visua...

Perception is a cognitive process depends on various factors of the environment. The user's mentality can affect his perception, understanding, and behavior in the environment. Organizing the environment is one of the important factors in the formation of spatial communication of elements that can be an important factor in understanding the person from his or her surroundings. In this research,...
متن کاملA Developmental Neural Model of Visual Word Perception
A neurally pl ausi bl e model of how the process of visually perceiving a letter i n the context of a word is learned, and how such processing Occurs i n adults is proposed. The model consists of a collection of abstract letter feature detector neurons and their interconnections. The model also includes a learning rule that specifies how these interconnections evolve with experience. The interc...
متن کاملParking and the visual perception of space
Using measured data we demonstrate that the statistical properties of the distances between parked cars and the distances between birds perching on a power line are identical. We show that this observation is easily explained by the fact that birds and humans use the same mechanism of distance estimation. We give a simple mathematical model of this phenomenon.
متن کاملVisual perception as invariance.
The railroad tracks stretch straight and far away from me over the desert and on to the horizon. I stand squarely between them, looking along them to the horizon, and I observe both that they converge as distance gets greater and also that they are at every distance equidistant. This is the perceptual paradox of converging parallels. Every one has the experience, and Blumenfeld (1, pp. 323-346)...
